Freedom
When God’s people were rescued from slavery in Egypt, God was saying to the world, “These are my people.” The children of Israel were not chosen to be God’s people because there was something special about them. In fact, they were chosen because there wasn’t anything special about them. They were chosen out of all the people in the world to show the world what God is like.
Just as God’s people were freed from slavery in Egypt, in Christ, we are freed from experiencing the consequences of our sins to live liberated from them. And what we do with our freedom is important.
Being God’s people comes with responsibility. Do we take our freedom in Christ to mean that we can say “I believe in Jesus,” but can behave however we want to, even in bad ways? Or do we see that calling ourselves “Christians” means that people should be able to see Christ through our actions?
Freedom is a gift. How we use our freedom reflects who we are, and who we represent. Pray that God would help you to remember who you represent and why your actions (and sometimes, lack of actions) matter.
Question to Ponder: What are some things that we will not do because Christ has freed us? What are some things that we will do because Christ has freed us?
